Entry Permit

Taiwanese Chinese residents who do not hold any valid travel documents issued outside Taiwan and wish to travel to Hong Kong must apply for an entry permit before traveling to Hong Kong.

Since Taiwan does not have an agency that directly handles entry permits, and the Taipei office of the Hong Kong Tourism Board does not handle relevant applications, Taiwanese Chinese residents who want to apply for a tourist entry permit can apply in any of the following ways:

1) Online ID card

Taiwanese residents born in Taiwan or Mainland China can apply for an express online pass through the Internet through the travel agency network distributed throughout Taiwan. Successful applicants can travel to Hong Kong as soon as the day of application.

Applicants must hold a Taiwanese passport, which must be valid for no less than six months. The application must be processed through the travel agency. After the application is accepted, the applicant must, subject to the arrangements of the travel agency, arrive in Hong Kong to transfer to the airport at the arrivals level with the "electronic notification" paid by the travel agency and the original Taiwan passport. Collect the Online Express Pass at the E1 counter in Area and enter the country immediately (the Online Express Pass airport counter is open from 8:30 am to 11:00 pm every day); or obtain the original of the Online Express Pass from the travel agency before departure. For use when entering the country.

Online Express Pass holders can enter Hong Kong twice within two months and stay for 14 days each time. Starting from January 2009, the period of stay in Hong Kong has been extended to 30 days. Please check with the travel agency for the relevant fees.

Note: The online express permit program is to provide greater convenience for Taiwanese tourists traveling to Hong Kong and to provide them with an additional choice when applying for entry permits. If the traveler fails to successfully apply for the online express pass, he or she must submit a written application according to the arrangement mentioned in item 2 below.

2) Hong Kong Tourist Entry Permit (i.e. "Hong Kong Visa")

Taiwanese Chinese residents currently living in Taiwan who wish to travel to Hong Kong can submit applications for a Hong Kong Entry Permit through the Taiwan offices of recognized airlines or travel agencies. Applicants can apply from Hong Kong Immigration Department website Download the application form (ID78D/ ID78H) and submit the completed application form together with other supporting documents.

Applicants must hold a Taiwanese passport, which must be valid for no less than six months. Applicants must prepare a photocopy of their Taiwanese passport, a photocopy of their ID card, a two-inch half-length photo and fill in the application form ID78D or ID78H printed by the Hong Kong Immigration Department. With a tourist entry permit, you can generally stay in Hong Kong for 14 days.

Applications are divided into two categories:

a.ID78D – single entry (travel to Hong Kong for more than 14 days);

b. ID78H – is valid for one year and can be entered multiple times / is valid for three years and can be entered multiple times (travel to Hong Kong does not exceed 14 days).

(Important: After filling in the online application form, those who use the online application form must sign the first and second pages of the form respectively, and then submit the form together with other supporting documents to the authorized airline's office in Taiwan or Apply to the travel agency; the relevant airline office will write the file number on the application form. If there is anything missing, please check with the airline office or the travel agency.)
